Starting a new community garden in Surbiton
This will be the first session of a new project which will see the creation of a new community garden of a local group of residents. Creating a social spaces which is great for wildlife.

Over the last few years, GoodGym Kingston been part of a team to create a wildlife area at the end of a residential road. The communal garden had been neglected and was burdened with chopped down branches and green waste that had been piled over the pond and walkways by a resident. It took a few visits (mostly in the rain!) to clear the site and Elliot located funding to create a new pond and wildlife area. It has totally been transformed that we probably wouldn't recognize it any more!

Elliot, Kingston Council's Biodiversity Officer, has been in touch to invite us to come and view the garden's transformation and has asked us to maintain this mini oasis by clearing the vegetation along the walkways. We also might be asked to help with the management on the pond area and tackle the wilder area at the back of the site.

This will keep on top of jobs and maintain some great habitat for local wildlife populations. If you like gardening then this is a great task for you!

Typical risks of working outdoors and using tools, a health and safety talk will be done at the start of the event. Please bring gloves and long sleeves would be advisable to protect against brambles and bitey insects.

The task owner is Elliot and his number is 07906402431.

Meet at the Quaker Centre at 6.30pm for a 3km run there and 2.5km back. For those meeting us at the venue the address is Vine Close, Berrylands, Surbiton, KT5 8PU - we will get there about 7pm.
