Tending trees for the future (you’re welcome to join for any time you can spare!)

Treemendous York PartnershipTrees need care and maintenance to help them thrive and grow - especially with all the rabbits and hares at this location who enjoy nibbling the bark. When a ring of bark is removed from the trunk, the tree dies as its water/nutrient flow is cut off.
The saplings need checking. They may need replacement guards, stakes/canes hammered in straight or weeding around the bases.
Treemendous have asked for support any time from 10-12 am on the 2nd Saturday of the month from April to September. You are welcome to pop along for any time you can spare - and 10 am fits in nicely with going to Heslington Parkrun!
Bring gloves and footwear that can get muddy! A trowel might also be useful if you have one.
We will be straightening up trees, supports and guards, hand-weeding round the base of trees, picking up discarded guards and litter, and preparing to fill gaps with self-seeded trees.
You participate in this community mission at your own risk - none of the tasks are especially dangerous, but the Treemendous risk assessment is here if you wish to take a look ahead of the session: https://www.treemendousyork.com/risk-assessment.php.
Exact meeting point TBC but it will be somewhere near Kimberlow Hill.
There is bike parking at the health centre and sports centre.
For car parking, from the A1079 Hull Road out of York, turn into the Grimston Bar Park and Ride. 300m up the sloped entrance, and just before the roundabout turn right onto a track leading to a free parking area.
