Who this task will support
Groundwork East
Groundwork East is a community-led charity currently tackling food poverty issues across Luton. Groundwork currently has three food hubs open to the public from March to October in the form of drop in sessions. These hubs are open to the community in the form of drop in sessions to reduce social isolation, improve mental wellness and increase community engagement. All the fruit and veg grown at these hubs is donated to crisis services and participants.

Support This Girl Can and Let's Lift the Curfew

Sport England's This Girl Can campaign seeks to change how women think and feel about sport & physical activity and encourage women to be active in ways that work for them, regardless of age, background or ability.

Let’s Lift The Curfew launched in 2023 to showcase women’s stories and concerns around getting active outdoors in the darker months when the clocks go back, as well as calling on wider society to acknowledge their role in making getting active outdoors safer for women.

This year, This Girl Can is looking to go bolder and bigger, so they are supporting GoodGym to help transform the campaign into an annual movement that can raise awareness and take critical steps towards making outdoor exercise safer for women.

How to support the campaign

Read up: GoodGym has also produced training for male allies to help contribute towards women’s safety at night that would be good to circulate with any male members.

Every GoodGym session aims to be a safe space for women. So we especially encourage all our GoodGym women to join this session to welcome any newbies that join via the campaign. To mark the occasion and the changing of clocks we'll run with colourful lights!

The task this week

This week Groundwork have asked us to leaflet in the Farley Hill area to advertise some of the opportunities they have getting people engaged with their community gardens.

So, we'll meet up on Bute Street before running a loop up and through Farley Hill, posting the flyers before coming back down to town.

Options are available to run between 6km and 8km in total

Remember that we run to and from the task, so you'll only be running for half this distance in one go.

This is a standard GoodGym group run. If you can't run for more than 15mins without stopping or you're worried about any aspect of the session, contact us or see if there's a starter session coming up in your area.
