0 GoodGymers made their way 6km to help their local community.

Tuesday, 6th of November 2012

Last night, 6 eager GoodGym runners left Canary Wharf with only one thing on our minds. This week we were running to Caravanserai to help shift a huge pile of chipboard and waste wood into a skip. Once we had all converged at the Reebok Sports Club, we trotted off at a steady pace along towards Canning Town. 3km down the line, we found ourselves at the entrance to the community project, and dived in through the backdoor. On arrival we were greeted by Ibrahim who led us to a seemingly huge pile of MDF and chipboard. We set to work lifting and shifting it into the skip. Inventing new and interesting ways to lift wood at speed, the 'arm-forklift' worked well, and also the complex and intriguing 'tray' technique (involved using a larger piece of wood as a tray for the smaller ones - surprised?)It seemed like shifting such a large amount of wood between 6 of us would take an age. However once we had gotten started, we realised it would take far less time than expected. After an speedy and strenuous 20 minutes, all of the wood was stacked up higher than the skip seemed able to handle. We completed the task so quickly, Ibrahim was a little taken aback!Saying goodbye, we shot back out along from Caravanserai, past Canning Town station and up onto the highway. To make sure everyone felt like they had gotten a really good workout, I suggested a game of Caterpillar, and a bit of sprinting, to which everyone responded with enthusiasm. After making the short 3km run back to Canary Wharf, we all reconverged outside the Reebok Club. Thanks so much for coming everyone who was involved! Caravanserai always need the odd bit of assistance and Ibrahim was really appreciative. Next week, we should be doing some digging, and even some planting... Stay tuned!
