No way we can worm our way through the concrete
1 GoodGymer made their way to help the WANSTEAD COMMUNITY GARDENERS in Redbridge.

The Wanstead Community Gardeners put out a call for any volunteers to give Marian a helping hand with some beds on the high street - cue Goodgym!
Assembled at the Corner House, Marian took John to do some work at a nearby surgery, while Ann & myself teamed up to prep several beds on the high street. A mix of soil (quite heavy, clay-like) with compost and some grit was made up and brought over to the bed. There we started to turn over the soil before mixing that soil up with the supplies brought. On the sad side, the workers building the brick walls around the bad seem to have dumped left-over cement in the bed, leaving a mere 6 inch of soil. But on the good side, that hadn't deterred the worms, wiggling about all over the place once we disturbed them - good indication of decent soil!
Job done there, a little stroll over to Marian was just in time to help finish off and clean up. The one bag of soil left in the car park is finally going down, perhaps something for a Monday evening group run to lighten it enough so it can be dragged away to a corner...?
P.S... the purple flowers are my favourites, even though they apparently are very invasive!
