Volunteering at Chelmsford Marathon

Havens Hospices are looking for people to help out at the Marathon in the following roles:

Route Marshal Volunteer – This involves marshalling along the route directing runners, ensuring that any areas closed to the public remain free from any traffic and getting assistance for any runners that need support from our team of medics. You’ll be positioned along the route with a zone leader who will providing a briefing for you and be there to support you on the day. This role typically lasts from 8am-4pm (This is the maximum amount of time).

Water Station Volunteer – This role involves pouring and distributing water to the runners at one of the allocated water stations along the route. It’s a fast paced role and you’ll certainly be a sight for sore eyes as the runners approach you. We need water stations to be manned between 8am-4pm (This is the maximum amount of time).

Baggage Tent Volunteer - This is a key role helping take baggage from runners as they arrive and placing them in our baggage tent. There’s a chance to catch your breath once they all set off but then it’s back in position ready to give out the bags when the runners finish. Volunteers are needed between 7.30am – 4pm but note this can be done in shifts.

Event Set up – We’d love some extra hands to help set up the banners and barriers in the morning. It’s an early start from 6.30am – 9.30am and you’ll play a key role in helping get everything set up ready for the race. Note that this role may involve lifting and is rather physical.
