The UP Garden
We are transforming a 900sqm disused laundry yard in a council housing estate into a free-to-access community garden and play space focussing on upcycled materials. It will be a place for everyone to learn about gardening, biodiversity and eco-sustainability in a social environment, whilst the open play space will include play equipment that – unlike typical playgrounds – has multiple uses to encourage creative interaction. Together, they provide different levels of exercise, and the opportunity for our younger and older generations to socialise outdoors, improving physical and mental health.

We have been asked by the awesome Suz from UpGarden for some help with painting.

They have been donated a piano and it is going to live under a new pergola.

Message from Suz

We've introduced a community piano to break down barriers to access to music. We've built a weatherproof cabinet for that. And then there's a new pergola that stands over that (a mini version of our pink and yellow pergola). It's a really nice project because as well as the accessibility/inclusivity angle, the donated piano was built just a 10-minute walk away in the early 1900s (Gurney Road), and Andy MacManus (who did our mural) has donated his time to create an artpiece on the cabinet.

Suz has painted the rafters of the pergola so we need to paint the legs and roof panels.

We shall be painting the legs blue and the roof sheets will be various colours, similar to the existing pergola

We have the added complication of needing a dry day so mission may be cancelled at short notice

We are planning to do Wanstead parkrun prior to the mission and get something to eat before heading to UpGarden
