The popular Woodland Festival at Lesnes Abbey and Woods is back, and this year it will commemorate 500 years since the dissolution of Lesnes Abbey. There will be loads for visitors to see and do and we've been asked to help make it all happen.

We have three separate sessions available across the day - you can sign up to do one, two or all three!

This listing is for the 8am-12 noon session and we'll be involved in:

  • ๐ŸŽช setting up gazebos, stalls and the medieval village

  • ๐ŸŽจ getting The Lodge ready for the local art club to present their artworks

Once the Festival opens at 10am our tasks will include some of the following:

  • ๐Ÿช• looking after musicians

  • ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ following the wandering acts

  • ๐Ÿง™โ€โ™€๏ธ dressing up as characters

  • ๐Ÿ‘‹ greeting people

  • ๐Ÿ‘‰ directing people

  • ๐Ÿšฎ litter picking

After helping out, you are welcome to stay on and enjoy the festival attractions such as:

  • Medieval village: jester, cook and herbalist, wool spinner, medieval musicians, green woodworkers and a working medieval forge.

  • Music and dance: folk Music, medieval dancing lesson, Morris dancing and African drumming finishing off with a grand procession for everyone to participate in.

  • Kid's favourites: appearances by some well loved children's characters, The Snow Sisters, exploratory trails and quizzes, and getting dressed up for the procession!

  • Exploring the woods and nature: talks, walks, woodland mindfulness, bees, butterflies, ponds and more.

  • History: archaeological walk and an exhibition about Lesnes Abbey.

  • Creativity: an art show, crafting and plenty more to have a go at.

  • Woodland crafts: At "The Clearing" join in with creative crafting, woodland relaxation and other fun activities.

  • Farmer's market: fabulous food and drink and a special focus on crafts and the environment.

๐Ÿ“Meeting point

The activities will be in and around The Lodge, postcode SE2 0AX. The event organisers will provide more specific instructions about where to meet them nearer the time.
