Who this task will support
Children's Scrapstore Bristol
We aim to help improve play opportunities for children and young people and to reach as many children and young people as possible. Here’s how we do it… Our Scrapstore Our Aladdin’s Cave of low-cost, varied and abundant scrap materials for creative play – safe surplus resources collected from business and industry. You can access the Scrapstore by becoming a member. If you’re not eligible, you can gain access with our Artrageous loyalty card. Artrageous Our very own quality arts and crafts shop is open to everyone with plenty of child-focused products and children’s area – our prices are very competitive and members can enjoy a 20% discount on shop purchases. We also host fortnightly free Super Saturday Sessions for families to come in and get crafty! Scrapstore Play Services We are a small dynamic team of experienced play professionals, who support, nurture, model and develop play in schools and other settings. Parents 4 Play We have designed our very own campaign with the aim to create an inspiring and informative information and chat network about play for parents, by parents. We believe play is the single most valuable contribution for a child’s development outside of formal education. Over the coming year you’ll discover P4P events and social media activity led by parents and supported by leading organisations in Bristol and surrounding areas. You can find out more on the Parents 4 Play page of this website. Our social media We are a fun bunch and post regularly on Facebook and twitter. The emphasis is on creative play and messy fun! New!! Children's Scrapstore Events See all the events we have planned for the next few weeks!

The task this week

It's Tuesday so it's a group run (and walk), meeting in (and returning to) Workout on Welsh Back - *it's dark now so bring a headtorch** - you have been warned!*

We’re heading back to the Scrapstore to recycle waste into play things!

Changing facilities, lockers and loos are available at Workout Harbourside - bring your own padlock as Workout aren’t lending them anymore. Otherwise it’s just an er.

We’re meeting outside Workout unless it’s raining or quite chilly (then it’s inside Workout) and leave just before 6.30 so aim to arrive at 6.20

Support This Girl Can and Let's Lift the Curfew

Sport England's This Girl Can campaign seeks to change how women think and feel about sport & physical activity and encourage women to be active in ways that work for them, regardless of age, background or ability.

Let’s Lift The Curfew launched in 2023 to showcase women’s stories and concerns around getting active outdoors in the darker months when the clocks go back, as well as calling on wider society to acknowledge their role in making getting active outdoors safer for women.

This year, This Girl Can is looking to go bolder and bigger, so they are supporting GoodGym to help transform the campaign into an annual movement that can raise awareness and take critical steps towards making outdoor exercise safer for women.

How to support the campaign

Read up: GoodGym has also produced training for male allies to help contribute towards women’s safety at night that would be good to circulate with any male members.

Clothing considerations: Front and rear runners should ideally wear high-visibility, brightly coloured clothing. Where possible encourage members to use reflective clothing and have some members use headlamps or handheld lights for visibility.

Sharing the event: Use #LetsLiftTheCurfew in all social media related to your event. We'd love to see running leaders and members livestream and post videos and pictures from your LLTC run using the hashtag to build momentum across social media.

After the run/walk We pop into ClubHaus at Workout for a drink after the run/walk - anything from a pot of tea to a pint of something local to a glass of water - so we can talk even more!

Walkable

You will be able to join a group walking to the task if you'd prefer not to run.

Options are available to run between 3km and 5km in total

Remember that we run/walk to and from the task, so you'll only be running/walking for half this distance in one go.

This is a standard GoodGym group run. If you're worried about any aspect of the session, contact us.
