The Inspiring Individual Award

The Sean Coxhead Inspiring Individual award is given annually, and recognises one GoodGymer who has shown remarkable dedication, kindness or effort. The award is in celebration of Sean Coxhead, a GoodGymer in York who sadly passed away following a diagnosis of bladder cancer. Sean inspired all of us with his outstanding courage, determination and commitment to GoodGym and his community. You can read all about the award and what it means to us at GoodGym in this story.

The Judges

Nominations are made by the GoodGym community with the final decision being made by four amazing people with a connection to GoodGym's mission:

Jasmira Bhabra works for Sport England on their highly successful This Girl Can campaign which aims to help all women from all backgrounds get active in ways that work for them.

Over the past few years she has overseen digital marketing and comms, and recently celebrated 10 years of the campaign.

David Garrido is a sports broadcaster with a career including regular appearances on the BBC and Sky. He is currently a presenter on Sky Sports News.

David has a particular interest in the impact of sport on the climate and is the sustainability lead at Sky Sports News. He recently made a documentary entitled “Football’s Toughest Opponent” exploring the relationship between football and the climate crisis.

Tom Payne & Shubho Hassan Tom’s Run Club started when Tom invited flatmate Shubho to join him on his morning run around Burgess Park in South London. Shubho did little exercise at the time but was soon hooked, and their morning runs soon turned into an open invitation for anyone to attend.

The group grew quickly and has since attracted people from all over the world to attend. They also regularly host additional runs and socials across London and the club has turned into a huge community. Tom’s Run Club still happens every day of the year at 7am in Burgess Park.

Jade was chosen because of her outstanding contribution to the GoodGym community and beyond, with the award judged on four criteria:

  • Impact: how great their impact has been
  • Dedication: the dedication they have demonstrated and how they've gone above and beyond expectations as a GoodGym community member
  • Overcoming adversity: their ability to show resilience and strength whilst supporting others
  • Kindness: how they've demonstrated kindness and extra effort

Jade's Impact, Dedication, Kindness and the Adversity she overcame

Jade was nominated for the award by three GoodGymers from Merton. Below is a selection of the comments made about her.

Jade's tremendous efforts at the launch of GoodGym Merton and beyond set her apart from the beginning. By forging relationships with local charities and community organisations she has helped provide a consistent stream of meaningful tasks for GoodGymers, and successfully embedding a new resource into the Merton community. In doing so she has completed a mammoth 204 good deeds in 2025 alone.

Known for going above and beyond, Jade's reliability has made her a cornerstone of the group and someone others look to for guidance and encouragement. Her proactive leadership guarantees the group receive regular updates on upcoming sessions, task owner and GoodGym relationships remain well tended, and anyone that will listen has been told - and invited - to join GoodGym.

Empathy, patience, and respect - words used to describe Jade's approach in any interaction with the group. She leads with kindness and compassion that ensures every new joiner is welcomed, and every adjustment is made for those who need it. Her personal approach ensures that volunteers feel seen, supported, and valued always.

Jade’s journey with GoodGym is all the more inspiring knowing she also juggles a full time job, and has had to navigate a few setbacks earlier this year. Rather than being deterred, Jade has turned adversity to strength, using GoodGym to nurture her own wellbeing alongside her community. Jade's honesty has fostered a culture of openness and support, allowing people to bring their authentic selves to each task.

Jade’s dedication to GoodGym is unwavering. She attends multiple sessions each week, regardless of weather or personal commitments, and structures her working day in order to do so. This demonstration of such remarkable consistency inspires her fellow volunteers; and her reliability has made her a cornerstone of the group, someone others look to for guidance and encouragement.

From Jade

On hearing the news, Jade said "It is a privilege to be recognised alongside such inspiring individuals. When I was first asked to help launch GoodGym in Merton, I was thrilled at the prospect of building a local volunteering network. The number of organisations and individuals we have supported in the last year simply wouldn't be possible without our incredibly dedicated taskforce and team members as well as other GoodGymmers who have ventured into Merton to lend a hand. This award is truly a testament to their work

I find immense joy in discovering ways to help local organisations and meeting new members, and I hope this recognition inspires others to get involved. There is nothing more rewarding than boosting your own well-being while making a tangible difference for others."

From the Judges

David from Sky Sports News said, “Jade's story is a truly inspirational one. To get a new GoodGym up and running is one thing, but to show such commitment and selflessness, dedication and energy is remarkable. Jade clearly has a very positive effect on everyone she comes into contact with, putting them first and making sure they feel supported, especially fellow Goodgymers for whom she is clearly an absolute hero. Merton are so lucky to have her!"

Jasmira from Sport England added said, "Jade's really had a positive impact on GoodGymers in Merton, helping them overcome their own adversities, and taking on last-minute tasks to help out. She's inspired other GG-ers by overcoming her struggles and has encouraged them to do more, like taking up parkrun, which also helped them overcome their own obstacles and find a new uplifting hobby. She also demonstrates so much genuine kindness and compassion for everyone involved at GoodGym Merton, and goes the extra mile to make them feel good, lifting their confidence and making them feel valued".

Tom and Shubho from Tom's Run Club said, "We picked Jade because she didn’t just volunteer consistently (over 200!), she built and sustained an entire GoodGym community from the ground up, showing extraordinary dedication, kindness, and resilience while quietly transforming the lives of both volunteers and the people they support".
