21 runners ran 5k and moved 220 wooden stakes and 220 metal grills to protect 110 trees at a community orchard

Tough Weeder

This Wednesday nights GoodGym was a toughie. Buffetted by freezing winds and drizzle we still managed to run an impressive 6k to clear an area of weeds roughly the same size as 10 WWE wrestlers. We are hardcore.

Food Growing Hub

We went to help Camley Street Wild Park. Run by London Wildlife Trust they do lots of useful stuff across Camden. They are the hub for community food growing groups across the borough- providing compost and woodchip deliveries and workshops to promote best practise.

They manage a small strip of land by the side of the road that needed clearing. Eventually it will become a lovely little wild oasis in the heart of Kings Cross, but they need some help with the weeding. Jared from the Trust gave us a briefing and set us our task- we had to remove as much grass, clover and nettles as we possible could using hand forks and trowels.

Wind tunnel

With all the high buildings around us the area felt like a wind tunnel- and we had to really go for it to keep warm! After 25-30mins we had pretty much cleared the area-filling 4 large wheelbarrows with weeds.

5k warm up...

With temperatures dropping we took the tools back at the centre and headed for the canal to warm ourselves up with a nice 5k run.... We went for an out and back route- the speedier runners heading for Camden Market before turning for home, while those up for a more social run turning round a little sooner.

We all arrived back at half 8- warmed by a good run and the fuzzy feeling you get from helping someone else out. Nice one everyone.
