When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Lewisham.
- Friday, 20th of March 2020
On a lovely run from south-west to south-east, there were so many reasons to be positive, including that Spring does not give one fig for the disruption at the moment - the route was lined with daffs, blossom and the nights are getting lighter! It was the first of the new style mission which will focus on supporting the most vulnerable in our community by doing shops for elderly people isolating. This really is an amazing opportunity to help those most affected at a time when we all feel a little helpless. Good old GoodGym, and a huge shout out to the central team for being amazing bods who turned this around in less than a week! I arrived to find Mrs K had left a shopping list and some money in an envelope, and was greeted with a cheery wave from her and her cat safely behind the glass porch door. It was a tough start when the co-op was out of pretty much everything. This is a real worry for those who find it hard to get to the shops or have mobility issues - but luckily I struck gold at the smaller places! Job done, I headed back to drop the food, change and receipts back on the porch before letting Mrs K know it was ready and waiting for her. She couldn't have been more pleased. Our GoodGym army is going to do some wonderful things for our community, more important now than ever. And you can pretend you're on Challenge Anneke in the process. Win-Win!
