Wednesday evenings have fast become the new weekend for GoodGym. With the launch of the Haringey group, runners can now choose if they want to run on the North, East, South or West side of London....no excuse will ever be accepted again for missing a Wednesday session.

In the Olympic park we gathered under the watchful eye of some ominous dark grey clouds. They waited and waited and waited... the moment we set off they greeted us with a light shower.

We were heading to Plaistow's Urban Wilderness garden with the task of tree trimming. When we arrived Jacquie threw the gauntlet down.

Who's up for a challenge?

After a brief vote we all decided we were. So tree trimming quickly changed to pond filling. This could've been a much easier task if we weren't faced with 50+metres of garden to trek across with a leaky barrel, uneven surfaces and singing wheelbarrow with a flat tyre.

All part of the fun!

We set to work emptying the barrel, and then filling it with water. This was probably the longest part as the garden hose took over 10mins to fill the barrel to a decent level. We were warned we were going to get soaked but determined not to let that happen we made sure we cleared the garden from all obstacles before setting off.

As the barrel filled up Hasan noticed a little leak, this could have shattered our hopes of staying dry but we weren't messing about. insert sellotape Bish Bash Bosh...Fixed.

Water to the top, we set off across the garden. A steady pace at first which randomly woke up the wheelbarrow's Mariah Carey voice with a squeak that most whales would be proud of. As we picked up the pace it morphed into an even deeper Barry White type melody much to our amusement. We all had ringing ears after just the first trip. Soundtrack in full swing We got to the end carefully negotiated the step and gradually tipped the water in. It barely affected the pond level but still, we were proud that we all stayed dry and the water made it to the pond with not a single spill.

A quick time check and we were cutting it close but decided one more load of water in the pond could be achieved before we left. So we made our way back and quickly repeated the same process. Wheelbarrow positions swapped around as well as hose filling duties and 10mins later we were off again, this time at double the pace.

Once again the group managed to stay bone dry, and the pond was now noticeably fuller. JOB DONE!

We said our goodbyes and set off back to base for a stretch ready for our 'challenge' next Wednesday.

Same time next week

Kirsty

P.s thank you to Hassan for stepping in as photographer for the evening.
