9 GoodGymmers congregated this evening for the return to the Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park. Kudos to David C for his first session back after completing the Iron-man race in Malaysia just a few weeks before! Our task for tonight broadened the weeding spectrum from ivy to stinging nettles which are taking over areas of the park. By relieving the beds of these weeds the volunteers at Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park can replant different species of plant to attract birds and wildlife - a wonderful thing for a beautiful place in East London! As the piles of weeds grew bigger we needed to figure out a way to shift the shrubs to the compost heap, and with a fantastic feat of engineering (4 large sticks) the group were able to stretcher the piles successfully to the destination. An excellent demonstration of teamwork from our Heavy Nettle Band. A solid 9km run overall for those who made the return trip, and an excellent task well done! Thanks for coming and see you next week for some flyering for Christmas events in Aldgate!
