41 GoodGymers turned out to Lambeth last night… and thank goodness they did as there were three tasks to get stuck into.

The first group eight led by James and John fancied pushing their endurance to run the 3 miles down to The Portico Gallery in West Norwood. James has written brief run report in double haiku format:

"Off to portico Shifting things for John again John claims he's a bat

Sprint back to Brixton Shouldn't have gone through Brockwell We help where we can"

The second group lead by Beth and Becca headed the 1.5 Miles up to The Holland Estate near Oval. Becca Nellis explains what went on…

"The group doing the medium run set off towards Holland Park to help Ameena out with some gardening. Two willing volunteers extended their run to post loads of leaflets to the surrounding houses. The rest of us picked our preferred tools and got to work on some weeded areas near to the park.

We admired the blossom and spent the lovely sunny evening chatting, whilst avoiding glass and broadband wires as we dug. There were a couple of slices of toast found in one patch, which may have prompted the discussion about cashew and almond butter.. As the soil was so hard, we had a brilliant arm workout! Beth even uttered a statement about the soil quality which, quite frankly, is too foul to publish. However, in true GoodGym form we managed to tackle the weeds and clear the beds.

We cleared away the tools and stuck together on the run back to base. We arrived a little earlier than the others, so did some jump squats til they arrived. A good task and a job well done!"

The third and final group of 15 headed to Coldharbour Lane - Tom Benson has given an excellent account despite being dropped on his head at the end of the task.

"Now the sun is shining for a little longer it can only mean one thing…..more circuits for GoodGym Lambeth, tonight was no exception! A large team of us made our way back down to the Somerleyton Road to continue prepping it up for the Night Market John and his team have planned. It’s certainly an ambitious project but once completed its going to look flipping great and with GoodGyms help it back up why the old Major of London wants to meet us to give us a pat on the back for our efforts (greet work overall Team Lambeth!!). The task in hand involved digging, sifting and tearing up turf. We split into four different groups and when we weren’t gardening Rebecca had us running up and down the car park and then planking, press upping and squatting, it certainly was a good and very tiring work out. Overall we made a good dent in tearing up the front patch of grass which will be replaced with lovely plants soon, we sifted an impressive amount of soil (I not quite sure why we did this however it was an impressive pile non the less) and carried on digging up a hefty trench which is all very helpful in the getting the site ready. We worked solidly for over an hour which made a good dent in the overall prep and John and his team were very pleased with our help. Although it was only a short run to our location I’m sure we would agree by the time we had returned we had certainly had a good work out. Another top night, great stuff GG Lambeth and thanks Rebecca".

So another great week, three tasks completed… well done everyone… there appears to be no part of Lambeth that we don't help.

See you all next week.
