6 Goodgymers rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in helping the Kenilworth Centre to clear their outdoor space to make way for a new memorial garden.
After a short jog up the hill from Abbey Fields, we came across our first hurdle as we weren't able to get into the centre! A few hasty phone calls and emails later we were through the gate and ready to get going on the task in hand.
We had been asked to clear nearly all of the plants in the borders to make way for a new planting scheme. This involved a real team effort with lopping back the plants including prickly branches and transporting them over to the compost heap, lots of digging which gave everyone a chance to get out their stresses of the day and then finishing with a tug of war as the pesky roots did their best to hang on!
Lots of shrubs were cleared which then revealed some rubbish that had been hidden by the bushes, so we completed an impromptu litter pick and Vic even got going with the broom to help clear some of the soil that we had disturbed with our digging.
With the tools safely locked away we took a slightly different route back through Abbey Fields before completing a few hill reps in the park.
Big shout out to Jackie and Vic who were visiting from Coventry Goodgym and Jackie ran 9km from Coventry to join tonight's group run.
We've made a really good start on the task but there is certainly more to do, so we hope to be back again in the near future!
