24 canny runners took on the challenge of a 3 mile run and the task of sorting and weighing a mountain of food for the East Bristol Food Bank.

December is here and I think that the proximity of Christmas seems to make the GoodGym group even more keen to help others (if that is even possible!) The group where keen and ready to go from the off made light work of the 1.5 mile run from Vivo to the big storage building in St Phillips.

On our arrival Andy from the East Bristol Food Bank was on hand to welcome us and show us what to we had in store. The group were split into two groups; Sorters and Weighers. The first sorting crates as far as the eye could see into the major food groups, custard, tinned fruit, chocolate, etc. The second group used trollies to shift a whole cupboard stacked to ceiling with crates of food donated from major supermarkets to the front where it was weighed, logged and then returned to said cupboard. For every kg of food donated to the project they also receive 30p, so every gram mattered!

Some of the Sorters really showed their OCD for meticulous sorting and smashed through the task and even when all of the crates were done they still craved more. After they finished ,in a astounding act of teamwork, the Sorters joined the Weighers and each grabbed a crate from the cupboard, carried it to be weighed by the Godfather and then carried it back. After this great effort all of the tasks laid before the group by Andy were complete and he was chuffed.

The group then ran off into the night and back to our old stomping ground of Queen Square. Here they performed some skipping drills to help with their balance, coordination and strength. There were high knees, fast knees and backwards running.

After this we stretched out and ran through some announcements. The most important being the fact that it is our last run of the year next week and more importantly it is our wonderful trainer Pru's last run leading us. She has been an inspiration to so many of us so we really need to make it a massive one. Sign up here and come along for food afterwards to raise a toast (well a burger, but it may be on a toasted bun) to her and all of the great work she has done. Please add your name to the list coming for food here so we can book a large enough table. The more the merrier!

Thanks everyone for coming along tonight and thanks for the pun Jimmy, hope you don't mind that I changed it slightly. It was a tough task but you guys skipped through it!

See you next week,

Gary
