The Calla of Cthulhu
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Lewisham.
- Saturday, 16th of February 2019
This afternoon I reunited with the awesome Nykolette for a mission in Lewisham! 👍😊
Our task today was to help tidy Ms V's garden. Ms V really enjoys sitting out in her garden, but she hasn't been able to look after it as much as she'd like to as her mobility has decreased over the last few years in response to several knee operations and some slipped disks.
Our task for the afternoon was to work our way through the plethora of plant pots dotted around Ms V's garden, clearing them of any dead matter.
This was straightforward enough, although we did get a little creeped out at the slimey nature of some frost-bitten Calla lilies (they were putrid enough to seriously resemble a tentacled Lovecraftian monster) and some random brown liquid that appeared mid-mission (it looked like sick or diarrhoea (although please note that we didn't perform a sniff test to confirm), and just where did it come from in the first place?! We don't think it was there at the beginning of the mission... 🤷)
Aside from that, Nykolette and I had lots of fun chatting as we worked. Highlights include the oddities of our grandmothers ("chunky bums" and wandering hands were mentioned), and weird relationship stories (of the family-friendly stories, I once received a "break up package" from one ex-bf that included a couple of theatre tickets ✌️). Before we knew it, a couple of hours had flown by and it was starting to get dark!
We finished off the mission by mixing up some dilute bleach and pouring it over the patio (Nykolette getting slightly drenched with water when we were trying to work out how the hose worked). Job done, we chatted with Ms V about her plants a little bit before heading on our way. Great catching up with you again Nykolette! 😄

Oh Liz your reports aware always a pleasure to read. It was lovely catching up with you again. 😘
Ditto! Hopefully it won't be so long next time 😊
Such a lovely run report, sounds like you two had a wonderful time! Those pots look amazing :)
Thanks, Adele: It was so much fun chatting, I was really surprised at the end by how much time had elapsed! :)
While I would normally say that Cthulhu is the last thing I expect to see referenced in a GoodGym report, I have the feeling this is neither the first nor last time.....
Cthulhu fhtagn... 😏
