The A.B.C. Mysteries
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Ealing.
- Sunday, 12th of November 2023
Kash and Sevan made a return visit to Mrs J and were all set to bag some leaves. Instead, they uncovered a trilogy of mysteries that they would need to solve before having lunch. As stomachs started to rumble, motivation to answer the questions increased.
A: Where Are The Leaves?
The mission listing was titled "Clearing the leaves for Mrs J", so as Mrs J lead them into the back garden, the first mystery to solve was "where are the leaves?" Mrs J was surprised. No, Mrs J wanted the grass to be cut. This triggered vague memories of Kash and Sevan's last visit to Mrs J and a troublesome strimmer cassette. Kash hoped for better tools today 🤞
Answer: There were no leaves
B: Who Fixed the Strimmer?
There was no new strimmer. Kash looked it over after Mrs J handed to her and said "has someone else fixed this?" Nope, no one had used it since Kash's last visit, said Mrs J 🤔
The strimmer looked good and it was the right tool to tackle the wet grass, so Kash plugged it in and got going.
I remember the problem with the strimmer. The reel was tangled and the bump feed didn't work - Kash
Answer: No one fixed the strimmer
The strimmer still had the same problems, so Kash had to stop every 10 minutes or so to fix the spool and feed out some line. It did the job though. Kash managed to finish cutting the grass just as the spool became empty.
C: Where Are The Brambles Coming From?
Meanwhile, Sevan didn't really have anything to do. Rather than watch grass being cut, he grabbed some loppers and started to tackle the brambles. They were mostly around the edges of the garden and low lying on the lawn at the back. As he worked his way around the garden, he found a loose fence panel that revealed all.
Answer: The walkway behind the garden was the root of all bramble
The narrow path behind the garden was crawling with brambles. Sevan tried to get the loppers through the gap to cut any branches that he could reach. The long handles didn't make it easy though.
D: What's For Lunch?
There wasn't a rake collect the cuttings, so they were left for Mrs J's friend to clear up tomorrow. Mrs J was happy with the result and that the garden wouldn't need any more maintenance until the spring. Kash and Sevan headed off in the direction of their next mission and a local lunch spot.
Answer: Shashuka and Mexican Veggie Breakfast
