Six Goodgymers met up with our task owner Jan and the Friends of Turnham Green, to continue the task started on Wednesday evening, planting 400 snowdrop bulbs around the memorial garden by Christchurch.
The memorial garden commemorates a local boy, who died in a tragic accident some years ago. His favourite toy being a duck, there’s a wooden carved duck in the middle of the garden in pride of place, surrounded by spring flowers.
We were set to work scattering pasta on the grass to decide where we planted the bulbs. Let it not be said that we don’t embrace novel methods. Then we set about digging 6 inch holes for the bulbs, taking care not to bury the pastor in holy ground. Yes you read that right, the dad jokes were flowing thanks to Paul. Talk turned to trail runs, Parkrun, football and marathon training and in between Paul and Johnny found time for a game of sheriffs with the garden tools.
Around an hour later the bulbs were planted and we were done. Thoughts quickly turned to post task treats, so we made our way to a new independent cafe recommended by Pippa on the High Road.
