Stairway to Heave-en
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Camden.
- Saturday, 2nd of April 2022
Ms F was preparing for the summer and needed help moving a heavy storage box of winter clothes to the basement, so as to make space for her summer clothes in her flat. Cue two willing GoodGym runners - Laura and Anne - ready to lend a hand, not to mention muscle.
Laura had helped Ms F previously and was familiar with the storage box, confident that we would manage to move it, despite its size and weight.
Although there was a lift, it was too small to be of use. The only option was to heave the box from the 4th floor at the top of the building, down several flights of stairs to the basement. The runners quickly came up with a plan to guide and control the box down the stairs without gravity taking over. Ms F was also keen to help and enlisted the help of a neighbour for good measure.
The team worked a rota, taking it in turn to control the box from top and bottom and give one of the team a break between flights, while Ms F held doors open. In no time at all, the box was safely rehoused in the basement.
Laura then offered to help Ms F with her mobile phone, to make sure she could hear it when it rings. Ms F was delighted with all the help she got.
