Sorting out beeps & bobs
3 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Lambeth.
- Friday, 12th of October 2018
Mr A is hoping to come home from hospital soon. Hilary, David and Gosia met up in his home in Lambeth to help creating some space for hospital equipment in his bedroom. His relatives welcomed us at the door and provided quite precise instructions on what needs to be done.
One of this dream trio of GG runners (which name will remain anonymous) had a small delay due to a strong will to do a bit of additional sightseeing in central London ๐ธ๐. We got there all in the end ๐!
Our task started with removing a wardrobe from the bedroom. Such a relief when we realized that the shape and size of the furniture was just a perfect fit ๐ to save us from (typically) challenging rotating/lifting/adjusting efforts. Instead, the wardrobe easily went through the door and got transferred it into the 'spare' room. This action already made a lot of space in the bedroom!
A bed was next in the queue for the transfer. Hilary came up with a great idea to put it on the top of another bed that was already in the 'spare' room. From that moment, she was - deservedly - being called by Mr A's relative as 'the one with the brain' ๐ง . We brought this idea to life by: temporarily removing mattresses from both beds, putting the base of the transferred bed on to the one in the 'spare' room and eventually - putting both mattresses on the top. A tiny shiver when we found out that one of the mattresses is more than 30 years old ๐ฎ.
Later, we did few last adjustments in the living room by moving armchairs to make a bit more space for Mr A in that area as well.
Before we left, we decided to investigate a strange beeping noise that was occurring from time to time while we were working on our main task. The lead detective David ๐ต๏ธโโ๏ธ arrived at a conclusion that the fire alarm is the main suspect in this case. He has a closer look (without a magnifying glass) and it turned out that the device was running out of battery๐. By making these alarming beeps, it just wanted to communicate this fact to the tenants. While we were struggling with removing an 'old' battery, Mr A's daughter went to a shop and bought a new one. We used as a replacement. Case solved!
Mr A's relatives seemed to be very happy with the outcome of the mission, also because this mysterious beeping noise completely disappeared. We let them know that they can always call GG if they need help with anything else in the house.
