Someone has been adding soil to my flower beds... the plot thickens.
6 GoodGymers made their way to help their local community in Bexley.
- Saturday, 16th of October 2021
- Led by Tim Dickson
Getting their fitness in early, several GoodGymers, along with Poppy πΎ, started the morning at Bexley parkrun in Danson Park.
Then we headed across to the other side of the park where, joined by more GG-ers, we were back at one of our regular gigs helping the dedicated and award-winning volunteers of the Friends of the Old English Garden.
Our task was to help prepare some flower beds in readiness for planting a display for the Queens Jubilee next spring and summer.
At each flower bed we loosened the soil, dug it out, mixed in homemade fertiliser to enrich it, then shovelled the earth back into the plot.
We π₯πΆπ¨ deep and π΄π±π’π₯π¦ good progress until, in contrast to the weather π§π°π³π¬cast, the heavens opened, quickly making the ground - and us - too wet to get the job finished.
Most of the GoodGymers headed home but a couple stayed a little longer to help clean and put away the gardening tools, rewarded with a warming cup of tea and delicious rock cakes.
Thank you for having us and see you on 20th November for our next installment.
