Today 3 of us met at the Battersea Arts Centre to collect the ingredients to be delivered for the Kinship zoom cooking classes.
Once we had figured out where everyone wanted to go we set off in our different directions. Thanks to Rob for taking on 2 deliveries due to a no show
The recipients will be kinship carers and the children they care for- kinship carers are family members or connected people who step in to care for children who would otherwise enter the care system permanently, or be adopted outside of the family. This means lots of grandparents but also aunties, godparents, sometimes adult siblings. They care for often traumatised children and have to manage very complex family dynamics and often loss of income and housing problems as a result of their caring role. They are the forgotten carers of this country and don't get any of the support that foster carers and adopters get so this opportunity will mean a lot.
