Short back and sides
3 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Sheffield.
- Sunday, 20th of August 2017
Fresh from the morning's 10k (some had even washed their shirts!), we ventured to Shirecliffe to tidy up a garden for a garden for an elderly resident. This included trimming a climber back from the windows, cutting back a privet hedge and some general weeding.
Keen Kat had come armed with tools, and was so eager to get going we had to hold her back so we could get a "before" shot! Snipping Steve accompanied our host round to a neighbours to borrow a stepladder in order to reach the top of the climber, and then set to work removing the protruding branches. Meanwhile, Shearing Suze tackled the overgrown privet hedge, which Mrs. C was keen to be have cut right back down to size. After giving it an initial haircut, the pruning and shaping proved more of a challenge, and despite Suze's best efforts to match the high standards of the professionally pruned hedges next door, every snip seemed to create a new angle.
Are you doing a straight corner or a curved corner? - Mrs. C seemingly baffled by Suzes hedge trimming
Eventually we agreed that the potential improvements could be inifite, but it was near enough. Kat cleared away all the trimmings and the additional weeds she'd pulled up from the borders, totalling FIVE BAGS OF GARDEN WASTE! Steve returned the ladder and discovered that several of the neighbours have also signed up for GG missions through the local Community Centre (where Mrs. C does Yoga and Tai Chi!), so we're likley to be heading back that way soon!
Mrs. C was tremendously grateful for our efforts and invited us in for a cup of tea and a biscuit - a great way to end a lovely GoodGymmy weekend :)

This is amazing - thank you so much to the runners and all who organised this. I am sure that this will make a real diffrence to Celia; just knowing there are nice people out there willing to help but also her nice new topiary! x
Thanks Annie, it was lovely to meet her and help tidy the garden!
