Shopping? I can CANDLE that!
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Newcastle.
- Friday, 20th of November 2020
Ms B was recently out of hospital and needed a few things picked up - leeks, carrots, mince pies, pork pies, pate and candles. After a quick phone call to clarify the type and number of candles (fork handles anyone?), like a candle in the wind I was off.
Sainsburys seemed like the most likely place to have everything and I’d soon got all items in the trolley except for candles! Found the empty shelf and was told by a staff member that they’d been out of stock for a while, due to them coming from China and COVID and, well, you know...
From my earlier conversation with Ms B, I knew how important the candles were as she’d told me she lights one daily to bring a bit of cheer and would eat her dinner by candlelight. I knew I had to find candles.
Next stop: Wilko. Surely they’ll have tapered dinner candles? Nope. No candle do. Sigh.
Right, one more place to try - Morrisons! Let’s see if they really do have “More”. Result! Boxes of 20, even different colour choices. Ms B was absolutely delighted and I left with a warm, candle-lit glow kind of feeling. I think I “candled” that mission perfectly!
