Shepherds Pie vs Cottage Pie: The Showdown
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Southwark.
- Friday, 3rd of April 2020
Took a lovely lunch break from work to run down, through glorious Burgess Park, to hit M&S in Walworth for Mrs E. There was quite a queue, but once inside I was very relieved to see they had nearly everything she needed... but alas, she had requested two shepherds pies and they only had cottage pies. I initially popped two cottage in my basket, but then thought I should call her to check that was an acceptable swap... thank heavens I did because it would NOT have been cool with her - she is not at all a fan of the cottage variety. NEVER ASSUME COTTAGE PIE IS AN ACCEPTABLE SHEPHERDS PIE SUBSTITUTE, TEAM.
After accidentally scanning my shepherds pies 3 times instead of 2 (honestly those pies are my new nemesis) and a bit of help from the lovely customer service person, I was able to jog the shopping back to Mrs E's flat where she was waiting. We had a lovely chat - she hadn't seen anyone in about a month, so was very grateful for the help. She even tried to pay me (don't worry, I declined!). She also asked if we she could book in for this shopping to happen weekly for her while the pandemic is going on.
Definitely the most heartwarming and meaningful mission I've done in a long time!
