With Simon away this Saturday, 11 GoodGymers wanted to get straight to it, however, Ruth had left the keys to Thorlands at home. During that time, Sam explained to first-timers to Thorlands: John and Michael what the vision and project for Thorlands was for this year and the future!
Once we were allowed in to collect our tools, we headed into the "Forest" garden of Thorlands. There were several tasks and after briefly explaining what needs to be done; Sam asked who wanted to do what:
- Jessie and Phil took care of the buddleia that was creeping into Thorlands as it was best to take the tree before it starts growing leaves again.
- Claire and Michael were nearby sawing away wood for the hedgehog hotel.
- John, Lucie and Michael needed tough gloves to bring out the brambles from the bamboo bushes and tackle their roots too!
- Kaz, Nathan and Tilly continued with the fork and mattock to clear all the roots near the fence and side entrance. I reckon we can start putting down cupboard and mulch next week! 🙌
- Sam plotted about, but did a few tasks like shovel off the moss from the play area and chop up buddleia with the secateurs.
An hour and a half at Thorlands can whiz by and it's always great to see new, but familiar faces attend Thorlands and see the work we are doing here - converting brownfield sites into usable space for the locals and residents to benefit from.
