Saturday Night Heaver.
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Lambeth.
- Saturday, 22nd of August 2020
Ms M is due to come home from hospital shortly so needed her bedroom cleared to make space for a hospital bed. The task description said a bed needed to be dismantled as well as three wardrobes and other furniture to be moved, so we came prepared for a different sort of heavy Saturday evening...
Our first challenge was to actually locate Ms M's flat, but once done we met up with Ms M's son, Mr J, who had done a good amount of preparation by emptying the wardrobes, as well as clearing the spare bedroom where all the items were going. First task was to dismantle the bed and armed with the right sized Allen keys (both Oliver and I came suitably prepared) we quickly had that done, moved and rebuilt and with mattresses back on top - Mr J then gave it a quick test drive and declared it pretty comfortable.
The now empty wardrobes also proved quite easy to move, with a quick tilt through the doorways, shuffle and push into position - leaving just a dresser/drawer combination that, whilst a bit heavier and having to keep one hand on the drawers to stop them falling out, we managed to fit into the final space remaining in the spare bedroom.
We asked Mr J if there was anything else that needed moving or tidying but he seemed very happy with our efforts and said his sister was coming along tomorrow to finish it off, and so, after moving one leftover wardrobe to the bin area outside, we left him listening to his soulful R&B tracks and headed on home in the evening light.
