Sandwiched into the little garden
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Hounslow.
- Saturday, 26th of May 2018
Andy and Remy met on a surprisingly warm Saturday morning to help Mrs A tidy up her garden. We were both impressed by the lovely garden and the array of tools offered to help us get the task done - we could see that the garden had been well-maintained over many years, and Mrs A told us that she'd been coming out and ordering the plants to stop growing, but they were just so healthy and happy that they ignored her.
Andy impressed everyone with his knowledge of which things should be pruned and when, so he gave some instructions, then Andy and Remy got to work. Various neighbours appeared with ladders and bin bags to help us along as massive piles of clippings grew and we started sweating in the sun. But not before long, Mrs A reappeared with a platter of homemade sandwiches and cold water bottles to fortify us. We took a few sandwich breaks to keep our energy up whilst cutting back trees, bushes, climbing plants, and ivy, and then after we bagged up all the clippings, the lovely Mrs A reappeared with juice and biscuits, which we shared together in the sunshine.
She told us she felt we had given her a whole new garden, and that she would love for us to come back. The feeling was mutual for everyone except the shiny black cat, who seemed rather miffed.
