Roasting in the sun - Mediterranean style
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Islington.
- Saturday, 29th of June 2019
It was a hot Saturday morning. After coating myself in sunscreen, Suraj and I were ready to tackle Mr L's back garden. The bindweed had been encroaching on the apple tree, but we made short work of it and filled two bin bags up. Then followed the best part of the mission. Mr L had two rosemary bushes that were thriving in his southerly garden and had grown a lot. One of them had originally been grown from a cutting of the other. We were a bit hesitant with the secateurs at first, as to not cut off too much. But Mr L suggested the rosemary was very hardy and we should cut "short sides and back", so we started chopping the branches with gusto, enjoying the fragrant smell of it. This radical cut had two benefits: Mr L's lemon tree finally could see the sky and sun again, as it had been hidden under the rosemary for a while. Secondly, the 2 bags of rosemary cuttings were gonna start a new life as a hedge in the garden of Mr L's carer. I also thankfully accepted a few sprigs of rosemary for use in the kitchen. Mission accomplished we headed off into the sunny afternoon. Having finished typing up the report I am now looking forward to a mission inspired rosemary and lemon roast chicken.
