Putting Mattress to Bed
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Oxford.
- Thursday, 4th of March 2021
Sarah and I took late lunch breaks to go and help move Mr J’s bed so that he is more comfortable at home. Mr J has been mostly bed-bound since getting home from hospital, but his OT felt that the time was right to move his bed to a different room in his flat. This should enable Mr J to move from bed to chair independently and will give him the space he needs to build up his mobility.
Mr J’s OT explained to us that the NHS OTs are not insured to move furniture, and the organisation who they used to refer these tasks to will no longer move a patient’s own furniture. If a patient has no friends or family who can help they may be unable to get these tasks done without significant costs (paying a furniture removal company) and delay. She seemed very pleased that GoodGym can help out.
This was a very quick task for us - we were out in less than half an hour - but we could see it would make MrJ’s life much more comfortable.
