Proper Springtime at Penn Gardens
7 GoodGymers made their way to help the Penn Rd Residents Association in Islington.
- Sunday, 27th of February 2022

Our Goodgym crew were thoroughly spoilt by the glorious weather this morning- beautiful sunshine, t-shirt temperature- after a week of endless storms. The Friends of Penn Road Gardens were out in force, with a vast array of tasks available for us to help with for their monthly open gardening morning.
Alex and Emily took on the mighty job of moving and shifting piles of collected green waste (sticks, branches and debris collected from the storm) into the communal composting bin. The stuff we gathered last month had already become mulch and fertiliser- so we can see that the system works!
David and Rob opted for wild garlic collection duty- thinning this extremely pungent and fast growing plant from the flower beds. Wild garlic can be a delicious cooking ingredient (if used sparingly- it has a kick!), so some of the prime clippings were kept for later use!
Benedetta and Simon were in charge of pruning various overgrown plants and bushes around the park- Benedetta took on the railings, while Simon hunted for brambles, while picking up litter on the way. John dug up a series of holes in the flower beds, and planted some lovely new colourful flowers in plant, before helping with the compost crew.
Within 2 hours, we made a huge contribution to the maintenance of these lovely local gardens. Great job everyone! We will return on Sunday March 27th for more Penn Road Gardens fun!
