9 GoodGymers made their way to help the Octopus Communities in Islington.

Goodgym Islington returned to Market Road Gardens yesterday to help Frannie of Octopus Community Networks (she added a lovely Instagram post here) with plenty of tidying, sweeping, weeding, trimming and digging work.
9 runners and cyclists arrived in total (including new starters Ashley and Olivia- welcome!), and a few folks arriving for their first community mission since the start of lock down. We split into about 3 or 4 socially distanced groups- Sarah and Ashley trimmed back the over grown foliage from an old tree (located around a work area for future school groups), while Steve and Hanry pulled on their thick protective gloves to tackle a few mounds of thistles and nettles around the dirt paths (by some fruitful apple trees). John tackled a similar task around the centre of the park (he brought along some extra leggings for protection), and David, Olivia and Iman swept up tonnes of leaves, branches and green waste off the main vehicle access to the park.
The area has been designed to be a wild green space- however, it got a bit out of control during the lock down and our Goodgym groups have been doing an excellent job which making the space more accessible, tidy and safe for future visitors.
We loaded up the Octopus Communities milk float with our tools, took a few photos of our hard work and enjoyed some celebratory chunks of vegan chocolate before setting off into the night.
Well done everyone! We still have spaces for our upcoming Saturday visit if you want to join us again soon:
