One lopper - but that didn't stop us!
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Sheffield.
- Thursday, 15th of September 2022
Natalie and I met at Mrs J's and I had a familiar feeling of bramble apocalypse, soon realising I had been here before. At the beginning of if 2020, we spent 3 missions clearing the space of brambles 1 2 3, but here we were and it was sadly even worse than before.
We heard how Mrs J's granddaughter did her best to maintain and did manage to keep a path to the sheds for a while, but brambles did what brambles do and took back over.
We were provided with loppers and a strimmer. The strimmer almost immediately ran out of batteries/stopped working. We cleared the way into the first shed. Inside we dodged the rat droppings and found a promising trove of power tools... but then couldn't get the extension lead to work 😔🙄.
Stuck with one pair of loppers between us, we did what we could manage in an hour and a half. We cleared around the upper shed and the steps that formed the top part of the path down to the second shed, but there was no way we were going to get the whole way in one session.
A frustrating task for a few reasons, but we did what we could. We left Mrs J and her granddaughter, wishing them luck with the rest, before running home together for a mile or so before parting ways.
