11 runners tidy up D lawn for Firstsite
Another Wednesday, another Goodgym run, and this time for Firstsite, who were very excited to have us help them out. The same story as a lot of other tasks we help. Funding cuts make this work difficult to do on their own.
So, tonight, we were in charge of tidying up the D lawn. I'm yet to decide whether it's called D lawn because it's shaped like a D, or just because its one of the lawns that were named after letters of the alphabet. I suppose we'll find out next time.
We had half an hour to collect litter, sweep debris from the path, return pebbles to their pebble beds, and push back the grass that was overgrowing onto the footpath. There was even a group of some teenagers who offered to help, and as we made our way along the path, we could see a circus skills class being taught inside.
After we'd finished with the lawn, we used the space outside FirstSite for our fitness session, in which we targeted single leg stability.
We split into 3 groups, and each had an exercise of a walking lunge, a pistol squat or a single leg deadlift. 3 sets of 10 on each leg before moving onto the next exercise.
After this, a short run back to Leisure World where we learnt about some extra funding we've been given to do some extra tasks in the New Town and Christ Church Ward.
Next week, we'll be doing some car park tidying for the Colchester Women's Refuge. Sign up here
