Now you see it... now you don't
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Luton.

When I arrived at Mrs J's house today I noticed that there was a lot of litter on the pavement outside her house, and also lots in her garden (this was just the patch by her front door, but there was a lot more strewn around). Mrs J. looked at the mess as she opened the door and apologised to me. Apparently a lot of litter gets thrown in her garden when students are coming home from school, and while she didn't like to moan about the young people she said she hated seeing the mess in the garden when she opens the door. She worries that the more litter there is, the more likely people will throw more rubbish in there. Mrs J invited me in and she offered to make me a cup of tea, which was very welcome. We then sat, and as she was in the middle of watching an Episode of the Sewing Bee, she asked if I minded watching it with her. It was all about 1930's style, and she laughed saying that she had been too young to remember the styling as she was only 2 in 1930. She enjoyed talking about how well (or not) the contestants were doing and we discussed which items of clothing we would wear and which we most certainly wouldn't. At the end of the visit I grabbed a carrier bag and before saying goodbye I nipped outside and did a quick litter pick - doing the bits outside her front door, then clearing the lawn, the front of the garage and the pavement. By the time she was ready to say goodbye the place was looking much neater, and she was much happier.
