No allan key, no problem!
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Hackney.
- Thursday, 4th of June 2020
Stefan and I met up at Mr C's house in Clapton where we were warmly welcomed in by his daughter. Our challenge today was to move a bed and dresser upstairs in the house to make room for a hospital bed that had been delivered just minutes before we arrived, so that Mr C could be comfortably discharged from hospital later this week.
We set to work carefully dismantling the bed, which had a lovely large wooden frame that you don't see everyday! At first we were a bit stumped as it looked like we'd need an allan key, but Mr C's daughter quickly provided us with a range of different screwdrivers and we managed to take enough of the brackets off to safely move the different pieces through the house. After a great discovery upstairs of a properly vintage record player, we returned to the bedroom to move the dresser safely out of the way and then brought the hospital bed into the bedroom, all ready for the real experts to come and build tomorrow.
Feeling like we'd had a good workout, and having had a real laugh with Mr C's daughter who was calling us 'mate' in no time, we took some slightly blurry report photos, waved goodbye and set off just as it began to rain, a nice way to cool down from all that heavy lifting!
