Today I headed out with members of the Sheaf and Porter River Trust, River Stewardship Company and Sheffield Litter Pickers to a badly littered area of the River Porter just near where it feeds into the underground chamber known as the "Megatron". When I arrived, I bumped into a few familiar faces including fellow Goodgymmer Tom.
The spot such an eyesore really near the train station, so not a good welcome to the city, plus the harmful effects on wildlife (although the rats didn't seem to mind 😬). After donning mildly excessive PPE (hard hats, life jackets and wellies or waders), we set to work as a team with litter pickers, rakes and spades.
After a couple of hours, we'd cleared several bags, filling 3 tonne bulk bags, plus a shopping trolley and bashing some Himalayan Balsam along the way.
The difference was incredible and we were even treated to crisps and sandwiches after!
