11 of my trusty team came together to carry out a litter pick at the community beach green and seafront garden. The volunteers, consisting of
- Gillybean
- Lucy who came especially from Portsmouth
- Paul
- Sarah
- Barbara
- Paula Newly available on Mondays again :)
- John
- Sue
- Craig
- Ricky ( whom I cant seem to add to the register! )
It was a great turn out on a beautifully sunny, if rather windy, evening.
Litter Pick Task
The primary objective of the litter pick was to remove litter and debris from the beach green and seafront garden, promoting a clean and welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike. Additionally, in our GG t shirts we hope we helped to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining cleanliness and preserving the natural beauty of these areas.
The team divided themselves into smaller groups and covered different sections of the beach green and seafront garden. Equipped with gloves, litter pickers, and Barbara's new, fishing recycled litter ring and bags, they collected and sorted and disposed of various forms of litter, including plastic bottles, wrappers, cigarette butts, and other discarded items.
Great work team!
Beach and Sea Time
After the successful litter pick, the volunteers decided to celebrate their hard work with an annual dip in the sea. Despite the high tide and windy conditions, they bravely ventured into the choppy waters. Barbara couldn't resist channeling her inner mermaid, but unfortunately, her graceful moment ended abruptly with a collision with Sue! Ouch! Wishing your knee a ( very) speedy recovery
Tamsin amazed everyone with her lightning-fast dash into the sea and joined Paul who was already basking in the warmth of the water. Paula, Sarah , Craig and John weren't far behind. The vocal and enthusiastic supporters on the sideline were Lucy, Gill, and Ricky.
After the invigorating swim, the volunteers gathered for a catch-up chat. During the conversation, John suddenly realized that he had misplaced his glasses. Thankfully, Sarah came to the rescue and found them nestled among the stones, saving the day as well as wiping the slate clean on the breakfast she owed John!
The event inspired us to plan a summer social BBQ on Monday 31st July. Meet at 6pm at the BBQ area next to the parkrun finish next to SPLC- maybe some rounders too?! Please bring your own food and drink. I will bring some disposable BBQ's to cook on.
