Leafing into 2017
8 GoodGymers made their way 4.0km to help their local community in Tower Hamlets.
- Monday, 2nd of January 2017
- Led by Laura Williams
Eight brave Bank holiday GoodGymers ran 4K to Hollybush community garden cleared 2 tonnes of Leafes and cleared 3 flower beds.
On the first run of 2017 the brave and bold were out in force! Welcoming some GoodGym tourists, some Team Tower Hamlets regulars and a big shout out to Keisha for an excellent GoodGym debut!!
Starting off with a very gentle warm up jog to oil the joints and feed some blood flow to the muscles in the very much Non Tropical conditions. We headed to Chip shop square for some much needed dynamic stretching to activate our key running muscles and promote a little greater range of motion in our hips, ankles and core.
Now we were nice and loose we got going to Hollybush community garden on a 2k loop through some local back streets. arriving to meet the energetic Margaret and David at the Rocky Road garden. Bursting into action we got right to it with Andrew clearing 3 raised beds of dead plants while the rest of the crew got raking and sweeping under the lantern lights. Working efficiently and effectively we quickly filled huge bags full of leafes then heaved them over to the compost area, dumped them and stamped then down for the next load. 40 minutes of leaf action, 5 big bags filled and deposited with at my best guess 2 tonnes of leafes collected. A top Team effort all round! To top off the evening Margaret had a special surprise for the Team by presenting the Flower Hamlets award from the Tower Hamlets in Bloom for 2016 for GoodGym's contribution to the community! A great achievement that so many should be so proud of ππ»ππΌππ½ππΎ.
We headed back on the 2k loop back to base dreaming of our 2017 running challenges luckily for me Becky was concentrating better than me and redirected us back on track before a big detour was needed to bring us home! As a reward we got a 5 minute Leg blast to wake up those lower body muscles and brush up on our exercise techniques. Ring and ring a roses side squats, pulse lunges and eccentric calf raises rounded off a top evening of GoodGym action!
Be great tom see you next week when we head down to Tower Hamlets Cemetery one of London's Magnificent 7 to help out there! Please sign up Here.
Until next next week
