With several Sheffield GGers in need of a community mission to save their streaks, we organised to go plogging in Firth Park - an area of the city we don't visit that often!
In true British fashion, the mission kicked off with us discussing the weather. The mercury hit 35.1 degrees in the Steel City today. An all-time high since records began in 1882!
We began the plogging in the car park, but quickly decided that picking round the park's paths might be better (and more scenic). Following the circuit we came across some outdoor gym equipment, tested by both Sarahs. Conclusion: the equipment is a good idea, but the cross-trainers aren't ideal if you've got long legs (King, 2019).
In a woody area of the park a small toy car was spotted under the bushes. James salvaged it and brought it over to the group, where it I promptly tested it it out. Despite looking a bit battered the steering still worked and I took it for a little bit of a joy ride down the hill (safely, of course).
On the return route back to the car park we almost plogged a lady's shoes by mistake. Two pumps lay in the grass amongst some other litter. So we picked them up. In our defense, the lady in question had climbed up a tree at the time so we couldn't see her, and she didn't shout down to us that they were hers! In a rather embarrassing moment (for us), she came back down to ground level and had to ask us for them back. Note to any GGers - check before you throw shoes away... and apologise profusely.
A nice plogging mission despite the heat, and several streaks saved!
Thanks to Kim for the plog-sticks and a bag or two... Wish 'shoe were here... Kudos to Andrew for coming up with the title, in regards to the shoe incident...
