Helping A Lady In Need Be Able To Sleep In A Bed
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Liverpool.
- Monday, 12th of October 2020
On another windy, rainy day (when isn't it these days it seems?), Jo and Matthew went to help M, an elderly lady with quite bad mobility issues, who has been sleeping on her sofa for quite a while now. The idea was to move the sofa out of her lounge so a hospital bed could be put in it's place. It does help start the task if both volunteers can arrive outside the correct house. We were both outside a number 6 and both thought we were in the right place. Of course it wasn't to be and Matthew realised he was one road away. Once sorted we got to work unscrewing the small legs from the bottom of the sofa, without whose removal we would not have been able to get it out of the flat. It was really poignant that M's daughter was meant to be there but she was rushed into hospital only hours before we arrived. It is humbling to be able to help people in real need. As we were trying to unscrew the legs, we realised that in fact you only had to pull them out. It could have taken us quite a while therefore to unscrew them. As we were doing this the men arrived with the hospital bed, so it was with relief we got the sofa out of the flat. It sometimes doesn't take long to do a task but the effect can be life changing and M will now be able to sleep in a proper bed again.

Great mission Matthew and Jo! I can imagine it was a great relief to Ms M to have a bed to sleep in.
