HDMI Spy
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Newham.
- Thursday, 4th of August 2022
This lunchtime I got to wander over to Mr P’s to help him solve a problem with his television and a connected recording device. Being able to watch and record things on the TV is important to Mr P as he’s bedbound and much in need of entertainment. I was slightly concerned that I might not be best qualified for the task having never owned a TV, nor being particularly au fait with freeview boxes such as the Humax that Mr P has. In fact, I generally forget that there are more than 5 channels available these days… But anyway, the mission info indicated that Mr P would be able to instruct someone on the connections required to switch around devices to the working one, which was indeed the case! Fortunately I have met HDMI cables before, so when Mr P described which ones should be attached to which input, it was pretty easy to work out and I think it was a re-ordering of his freeview box and an amazon prime dongle that I think solved the problem. Mr P was happy that the various devices were responding as expected and very grateful for the help.
HDMI cables aren’t particularly photogenic, but I did get a snap of West Ham’s Memorial Park (famously the training ground of the original men’s football team, who were formed by employees of a local shipbuilding company) as I made my way back home, mission accomplished.
