hardly root-ine but we did it!
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Camden.
- Friday, 10th of January 2020
The brief was to dig up a "small 10-20 cm tree" from Ms W's garden. Upon arrival, we discovered that it was actually about a metre high tree stump. We gave it a little wiggle and it didn't budge, so we got to work trying to clear the soil from around it.
A bit of digging revealed an extensive and still living root network, which we had to disentangle and then saw through and dig up to liberate the stump. It was heavy work and there were moments when we thought it might be impossible to complete the mission. However, we pressed on and eventually through a combination of digging, sawing, wiggling and heave-ho'ing, we had the tree out.
We carried the tree to the front garden, where it will be collected. It was so heavy that even between the two of us it was pretty hard work to lift!
Huge thanks to Ms W for her encouragement and cheering throughout the task - it really kept us going and made this one of the most fun and rewarding missions I've done.
