On a hot Saturday morning, four GoodGymers showed up on the steps of the Osterley House to warm up one thousand people who came to run the Osterley 10k race. The participants surely must have felt the heat already - but they were about to get even hotter thanks to Harvey, Ben, Sevan and Kash!
Harvey, who had already done the parkrun in the morning, showed up first and gave us an overview of the choreography. To be on the safe side, we taped a cheat sheet with the moves to a column of the Osterley House which is - as Ben rightly pointed out - a listed building!
A bit of stage fright kicked in when we faced some technical difficulties and were not able to play the song on the event's speaker - just when the GoodGym performance was announced! While Ben rushed to save the day by connecting his phone to the speakers to play the song, Harvey grabbed the mike to buy us some time. He not only came up with a speech on a whim but also used the opportunity to tell more people about GoodGym!
Gimme Some Lovin' by The Spencer Davis Group was ready to play in no time and we began rising the temperature of the runners with the invisible skipping rope, high knee raises, open and close the gate, rope climbers, reverse lunges and jog on the spot. We must have done pretty well as we already earned applause after the first song was finished. The warm-up got more intense when Town Called Malice by The Jam kicked in. When we finished the gig with fast feet, we got a second round of cheers from the audience. The runners were all fired up and ready to go!
Harvey joined the crowd to run the 10k while the rest of the GoodGym crew set off to get some water. Kash and Sevan got stuck a few times between the race route and the way home which allowed them to give the runners a bunch of extra cheer!
