Garden the Interruption
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Lewisham.
- Saturday, 4th of July 2020
Laura and I showed up at Ms C's on Saturday lunchtime to tackle her somewhat overgrown garden hoping to make it safe for her to enjoy this summer.
Ms C was ready and waiting to lead us to her garden (without needing to go through her house) and well equipped with all the equipment we could want including rakes, brooms, forks, trowels and a strimmer.
Suitably tooled up, we set to attacking the weeds that had sprung up over the past few months, and in particular the profusely propagating bindweed which was absolutely everywhere.
Wielding a fork Laura masterfully dug up a tall, robust weed of unknown variety which was firmly embedded in the ground near Ms C's greenhouse, whilst I cleared the path and then we both took turns making the lawn look more like a lawn than an overgrown meadow.
Time flew by and in no time the garden was suitably transformed ready for Ms C to enjoy, and she seemed rather thrilled at the prospect of having a BBQ there in the near future.
As we were leaving we broke down a few surplus cardboard boxes to be dropped off in the recycling on the way out, after which we both ran home happy with our efforts.
