Evergreen(way)
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Newham.

A straightforward out and back along my favourite cycle route, via Royal Docks pharmacy and drop offs nearby for Mrs F and Mrs S. I'm grateful for the Greenway as it largely avoids having to contend with any traffic. Fans of Victorian civil engineering might be interested to know that its existence is attributable to Joseph Bazalgette's efforts to end the "Great Stink" of 1858. Not that there are any aromatic clues, but the Greenway route is laid on top of the Northern Outfall Sewer, part of the treatment network that exists to this day. Abbey Mills pumping station (pictured, aka the Cathedral of Sewage) plays a role in connecting interceptor sewers and you can get in to have a look round once a year as part of Open House weekend. The tour is (perhaps surprisingly) popular, so you have to be quick to sign up!
