What a fantastic transformation!
A couple of months ago the six large pots in front of the shops at Valley Road were not looking their best. They were filled with weeds, litter and woody old plants but Cllr Anne Pissadorou and Lisa from local florist Forget-me-not wanted to transform them into pretty, colourful planters that would enhance the neighbourhood.
Goodgym spent a rainy morning a few weeks ago, clearing all the old vegetation and today we had the lovely job of filling them up with the pretty plants chosen by Lisa. We loosened the top of the old soil and mixed in a couple of bags of compost (made by the council from garden waste collected from the brown bins) into each massive pot, to give the plants a nice fertilised soil to get off to a good start. A good mix of tall and short, and green and colourful plants will ensure interest throughout the year and hopefully attract butterflies and bees. Each pot is being looked after by one business on the parade so hopefully they will flourish and won’t end up like they did before. Please don't forget-me-pots!
We all agreed it made a good change to put plants in rather than pull them up - to construct rather than destruct! And we felt proud of our role in helping cheer up this little corner of our city. Once again the world just got a bit better and we just got a bit fitter!
