Dandelion destruction
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Sheffield.
- Sunday, 27th of August 2017
Heroic Hannah and Smiley Suze headed to South East Sheffield to tidy the garden for Mr. W.
The first challenge was to find the right house amongst a confusing number system. After a few minutes of puzzled wandering, a helpful neighbour popped out and gave us directions. We eventually found it and were greeted by Mr. W's wife and daughter. We explained a little bit about GoodGym, and they told us how Mr. W. has been missing doing the garden since having a stroke.
There was quite a lot to tackle, so we got straight to work with Hannah chopping back the gigantic bush at the back of the property, while Suze set about mowing the overgrown lawn. We then moved on to pruning the rose bushes, weeding flower beds, removing lots of nettles, thistles, brambles and dandelions, and finally clearing the path of protruding conifers from next door.
After a couple of hours grafting in the sun, we'd filled 5 bags of garden waste and transformed the garden. Unfortunately the sun glare meant that we couldnt see what we were taking photos of, and only realised back at home that a parkrun barcode had been obscuring the camera and non of the pictures had come out. So you'll have to imagine the dramatic difference between before and after shots, and enjoy this stock photo of Hannah gardening.
